Fort Futures: the star plaza and flag, with the U.S. Army mark

The Army did an about face. It traded the obstacle course for a live broadcast.

High school recruiting used to mean setting up an obstacle course in a gym. Pathfinder Arena replaced it with a live interactive broadcast. We brought active personnel, white-hat hackers, pilots, microbiologists and astronauts in training, onto a virtual stage to take live, unscripted questions from students across the country.

Each broadcast closed with a tour through Fort Futures, a digital base built around the What’s Your Warrior universe that gave recruits a look inside modern Army careers.

How it was made

Three things that had to work.

Remote studios

With gathering restrictions in place, we built small green-screen studios across the country, running skeleton crews under COVID protocols.

The virtual stage: host and three soldiers composited live

Live compositing

Real-time chroma keying and compositing brought soldiers from different bases onto one shared stage, interacting with the live host as if they were in the same room.
